    AR (anti-reflective) Glass

    2024-05-27

Previously, we discussed what AG glass (anti-glare glass)is. Today we will talk about AR glass. AR glass (Anti-reflection glass) is also called anti -Reflective Glass

    AR glass:

    ①Definition:

By optically coating one or both sides of glass to reduce its reflectivity and increase transmittance. Reduces surface glare and increases light transmission and brightness of the substrate while providing better contrast clarity by reducing surface reflectivity of specific light waves. The maximum value can increase its transmittance to more than 99% and control its reflectivity to less than 1%.

    ②Function:

By increasing the transmittance of the glass and reducing ghosting and multiple reflections, the content on the display is presented more realistically.

    ③Application cases:

High-definition Display Screens, photo frames, mobile phones and cameras of various instruments.

Simple identification method: Take a piece of ordinary glass and a piece of AR glass, side by side and close to a computer or other paper screen. The AR glass will have a clearer effect.

How to Identify AR glass and AG glass ?

    AG has a foggy surface and a lower transmittance than AR glass;

AR glass looks smooth like ordinary glass, but has a certain reflective color.

AG glass emphasizes anti-glare and can reduce reflectivity to less than 0.5%.

AR glass guns emphasize increased transmittance and reduced reflection to improve clarity. In addition to increasing the transmittance of the glass to at least 92% , or even as high as 98% , it can also reduce the reflectivity to ≤ 4% .

Can the same piece of glass have both AG and AR coating ?

Of course! The same piece of glass can be coated with AG+AR coating at the same time, achieving a win-win situation of high definition and anti-glare.

Comparison of AR/AG coating on different glasses

Seeing this, you will definitely ask: What kind of glass is suitable for AR and AG film layers? The answer is of course: ultra-clear glass.Let's take a look at below table, which shows the comparison between ordinary glass and ultra-clear glass when both have AG/AR coating:

    Ordinary Glass VS Ultra-Clear Glass

( Comparison of transmittance of AG, AR Coating )

    Item 1

    Transmittance%

    thickness

    Item 2

    Transmittance%

    thickness

    Ordinary Float glass

    ≈86%

    5mm

    Ultra-white glass

    ≥91%

    5mm

    Float glass+AG

    ≥88%

    Ultra-clear glass+AG

    ≥92%

    Float glass+ single-sided AR

    ≥92%

    Ultra-white glass + single-sided AR

    ≥93%

Floated glass + double sided AR coating

    ≥95%

    Ultra-white glass + double-sided AR

    ≥97.5%

    Float glass+AG+AR

    ≥95%

    Ultra white glass+AG+AR

    ≥97%

    In conclusion:

① In order to improve the transmittance and clarity of glass, AR glass is preferred.

②In order to achieve anti-glare glass, AG glass is preferred.

③What kind of glass is more suitable for coating?  Ultra-white glass is more suitable for coating than ordinary float glass.

④ Both are AR glass.  The thinner the glass, the clearer it is.
